| 1) | Ann Grimes had a small car, |
| 2) | and she drove a lot in town, |
| 3) | because she went to work by car every morning |
| 4) | and came home by car too, |
| 5) | and she did her shopping with her car on Saturdays. |
| 6) | But she very seldom went out into the country in it, |
| 7) | because she did not have much time. |
| 8) | Then one Sunday morning last August |
| 9) | she said to herself, |
| 10) | "It's a beautiful day, |
| 11) | and it's hot in town. |
| 12) | I'm going to drive out |
| 13) | into the country |
| 14) | and have a picnic |
| 15) | in a quiet field there." |
| 16) | She drove twenty kilometers, |
| 17) | and then she came to a small country road. |
| 18) | She looked at it |
| 19) | and said to herself, |
| 20) | "This road's very steep, isn't it?" |
| 21) | She stopped in front of a house |
| 22) | and asked a man, |
| 23) | "Is this road dangerous?" |
| 24) | "No," the man answered, |
| 25) | "it isn't dangerous up here. |
| 26) | They always crash down at the bottom." |
